Poland, Hungary or Italy with teens

We will be in Germany for a week and then would like to take 5 days to see another country. We have narrowed it down to Krakow, Budapest or Rome. My husband and I have been to Rome, and would like to see another country but don't know where the best place to go with two teenagers would be, plus we LOVED Rome and all of the gelato :) We will be flying in from Berlin and the thought is to stay in one town and be able to take a day trip or two if needs be. Thoughts and advice would be much appreciated!

I'm with James, all three options are great (Rome being my all out favourite) and yes, teens are teens, they'll enjoy any of the three and should be grateful they're going to any of them considering they're not paying (presumably) ; )

I agree with James E. No losers there.
In a couple of months, we're flying from Berlin to Budapest on EasyJet, and the airfares were $139 round trip for both of us. Budget European airlines really open up options for travelers. You just have to be sure to travel light.
You can fly from Berlin to Krakow inexpensively on Ryanair too. Most would visit Auschwitz while there, if the teens are mature enough to handle it.
Rome is a complete destination to itself. It's a very important city, and many would want to also take in other Italian cities while they were there which would take more than 5 days.

I’d consider Rome because I bet your teens have or will be studying a lot of Roman history in school so it might be more meaningful to them. At least at my high school, the tenth grade English and history classes lined up so you’d be reading Julius Caesar in English class while subsequently studying Roman History in World History class.

If they haven’t gotten that far, just imagine them writing a paper that starts off, ‘When I was at the Colosseum....’

Thank you everyone for your thoughts...and Dale, that would be pretty awesome! I hadn't thought about that but it would be pretty cool to experience all of those places that you are studying. Thank you all!

All wonderful places. Rome is my favorite city in Europe, but I would pick something closer to Germany, since you only have 5 days.
Krakow is closer, also you could visit Dresden on the way.

You could also consider Gdansk in Poland, instead of Krakow, it's geographically closer to Berlin, there is even a direct train from Berlin across the border to all the way to Gdansk. A medieval Hanseatic city full of history and interesting historical museums/sights, it's also a vibrant university city with fun activities for youths of all ages. As a day trip consider nearby Malbork Castle, the largest castle in the world!.

Cameron Hewitt (Rick Steves' co-author) said Gdansk was his top travel destination discovery in 2019: https://blog.ricksteves.com/cameron/2018/12/gdansk/
