Point and Shoot Camera recommendations.

I realize a point and shoot camera doesn't take pictures like a DSLR. However I like the convenience of being able to slip a camera in a pocket. And I sometimes stretch it's limits. (Especially in low light conditions.)So I'm looking to replace my present point n shoot. (a Nikon Coolpix L18)

Any recommendations?

What I'm looking for. But it may be just a dream.

1) A camera with good low light handling, ASA without a lot of noise. (my most important consideration.)

2) We also carry a Sanyo HD Xacti video camera. And I tend to merge both photos and video into movies for our memories. So a camera that would allow me to alter the picture proportion to match the HD video would be nice.

3)The option of using RAW format for certain conditions would be nice.

4) Good white balance adjustment for different lighting situations.

5) Higher megapixel resolution for croping.

6) Takes AA or AAA batteries. So I can avoid having one more battery to recharge.

Is there a point and shoot that comes close to meeting this? Or am I asking too much?

Thanks

I too have the CoolPix. I got it to supplement my DSLR in the evening and other times when I don't want to take the big camera. I used to want the AA batteries, but I am now a fan of the purpose built battery for cameras. They last wayyyy longer and they charge more easily. And, they are lighter because you don't need so many.

There was another thread on cameras in May/ June that you might want to find. It offered a great review site for what they called Travel Point and Shoots.

Do they still make cameras that utilize AA & AAA batteries?

1) Nikon Coolpix S 8000 (wife's camera)
2) Canon PowerShot SD 1400 IS (which I use)

Suck it up and charge one more thing. Have Fun!!!

I know. I'm probably looking for what doesn't exist.

Just hoping I can come as close as I can. I'll probably have to just bring a power strip for all the recharging. That's the least important. But my fingers are crossed.

BTW my present PnS takes AA batteries. It's about two years old. I'll take a large pack of batteries. Carry spares in my pocket and toss them away as theyget spent. Then leave any extras at our last hotel. It's where I learned to appreciate AA batteries.

I have a Canon G10... LOVE it.. however it doesn't meet requirement #6 and I don't know about #2.

The new version G11 supposably is better with low light than the G10.. But my camera takes amazing photos.. I've also gone diving with it and gotten amazing photos.
