I heard from a friend that on his 2 recent trips to Asia , He was able to rent a pocket Wifi. He said it helps when he had to access maps , direction to take public transportation and to check for restaurants. Not sure if there is something like this in Europe or if just buying a sims card for my smartphone would be just fine. Thanks.
Disabling data on your cell phone and using only wi-fi when available is probably the easiest/cheapest option. Wi-Fi availability will be more in the cities or specific sites (restaurants, hotel) elsewhere.
I found widely available wifi in London, in Rome, most wifi was password protected.
Going the local sim route works as well, but more useful if you will be in one country for a period of time. If you will be hopping countries quickly, more of an issue.
Thanks Paul. We will be going to 3 countries on this trip. We will be starting in London then Venice then all the way to Prague. I Will be posting a question re. Sims card.
I found so much easily available wifi (usually free, sometimes a small fee) that I never missed my data. I could use all of my apps with no problem almost anywhere. I think renting a MiFi is overkill for most people.
