Planning 5th trip to Europe for 2012 and...

...just wanted to know if 90 days is enough to visit the following cities (with most of the large cities being more of a 'base' from which I can visit other places, such as small towns not normally on a tourist's itinerary): Vienna, Berner Oberland, Paris, Rome, Amalfi Coast, Brussels, Athens, Amsterdam, and Copenhagen 5 days each Munich, Nice, Florence, Venice, Prague 4 days each Graz, Innsbruck, Stuttgart, Berlin, Grenoble, Zurich 3 days each Salzburg, Hamburg, Dijon 2 days each I have been to most of the cities listed, or passed through at least. I'd like to explore them more in depth,
and am wondering if such places as the Loire Valley and Luxembourg can be seen as day trips from Paris and Brussels? I have gone on escorted tours in the past, and most recently utilized Busabout while staying in decent enough hostels (which I will have to do again due to budget, no bother). If it helps, I plan to ride the rails this time. Thanks!

Hi Michelle. I would recommend more than 2 days for Hamburg, unless you know exactly what you want to see and do there and that it can be done comfortably in 2 days. Luxembourg as a daytrip - while it isn't a big country (it can be crossed in an hour by car), there are a number of sites around the country (churches, monasteries, etc.) you might be interested in, so you might want to research that a little more. But Luxembourg City can easily be done as a daytrip from Paris.

Just off the top of my head, I'd say to cut a day off of Prague and stick it on Berlin. 3 days in Prague is plenty, unless you're doing a day trip out of there. I'd also consider cutting a day or 2 off of some of the bigger cities and spend some time in the smaller towns you'd like to see, instead of doing them as a day trip. It'll cost about half to stay in a smaller town, plus you'll get a chance to unwind for a bit. On most of the trips I've done, my best memories are from the times in the smaller towns.

Interesting, Michelle. Don't go over 90 days unless you have other visa arrangements beyond the normal Schengen visa waiver program. All your destinations appear to be within the Schengen area. I would give Innsbruck 1 day and give the extra 2 to Salzburg. Lots and lots to do there.

Michelle, I counted a total of 108 days in your tentative itinerary, including one day of travel between each destination. You said you want to do it in 90 days. I do not recommend attempting to do your sleeping in night trains between cities.
