HI there everyone! Need some advice... Looking to find the best and least expensive place to stay. Hopefully near public transit, which I have get more info on. This is my first trip alone.. and backpacking! I'll be starting my travels from London to Paris on September 1st. Any advice?

Cheaper than most of the hostels, and better, are the budget hotels. Concentrate on those and quit worrying about public transportation - - it's everywhere.

Last summer I stayed at the following places. They were is great locations. In Madrid Hostal Cruz Sol. (small room, great location) In Granada hostal rodri (very friendly people at the desk) In Barcelona hosteria grau (small room, bathroom down the hall but no wait at any time) They were all great locations. I would stay in any of these places again. Wendy

For France, use accorhotels.com and pick from the ETAP and Formule1 brands. For anywhere else, and France as well for that matter, use venere.com, rank by price, and run down the list until you get to ones with a guest rating above an 8.0 or so with a fair number of reviewers. I've never had much faith in the other systems, including trip advisor - - but that'll start a whole new arguement.
