Places to stay near Chartres,

How about within Chartres itself? I stayed at this place 6 years ago: http://www.hotelchatelet.com/uk/index.php Two things made this hotel stand out in my memory: Very large rooms, and a large parking lot directly attached to the hotel. Neither are particularly common for inner city hotels in France. The hotel is also within walking distance of both the train station and the cathedral.

Last year we stayed at the Hôtellerie St Yves. It's attached to the cathedral. The accommodation is basic, but clean, secure and inexpensive. The real convenience is the location and free parking for your car. We had a simple room with twin beds and a private bathroom with a shower. We had a nice stay at the Ibis in Chartres last year. They have parking available and it's within walking distance of the Cathedral and city center. Not quaint or unique but a clean, comfortable option for a night or two.
