Going to Malta in late July from Rome, where should I say, budgetwise?
Also, should I take the train, ferry? How long will it take.
Malta is very popular at that time of year. Booking your accommodation early is recommended. At that time of year you're going to be paying the top rate.
On Malta itself I really like the St. Juliens/St Georges/ Paceville area. I also have a long standing passion for Malta’s sister island of Gozo, when I’m there I usually stay in the Marsalforn area.
There are lots of ads on the net for apartments ready to view from private Maltese owners. Nearly all give a virtual tour. I’ve booked a lot of apartments in this way over the years and I’ve never been disappointed. PM me if you want details of apartments on Gozo.
From Rome it would be better to fly to Malta, I think. We went from London on Air Malta a few years ago and that airline probably flies from Rome, too. Also check out AirOne from Rome, which we used to get from Rome to Catania in 2006.
St. Juliens is very trendy and fun if you are young and looking for action. Sliema is more sedate, but not boring. Have fun and try the Pea Cakes !
