Hello, traveling to Athens and looking for mid-range quality places to stay.
There are many choices. You need to define your needs a little better to get much help from this board. What is "mid-range" (preferably in euros)? What is "quality," i.e. what are you looking for re location, amenities, etc.?
I'd suggest looking at booking.com, which lets you search by location, price, and other variables. Identify some good candidates and then maybe ask about them on this board -- preferably under "Greece" to get the most feedback. Use the "street view" feature on Google Earth to eyeball the neighborhoods. When you book, use the hotel's own website to save them money and get better service in case you need to change something.
I would qualify the above post with this: Use Booking.com as research to find a place then contact the hotel/B+B directly through e mail or their booking engine.
As a former owner of a boutique hotel in a resort area I can tell you that you are much much more likely to get the best deal from the hotel.
Also b.com usually wants your money up front. I like to preserve my options when dealing with hotels and pay at the property.
In addition try looking at Airbnb there are some great deals in Athens with great locations.
Thank you Aarthur Perry, that's what I needed to know.
Not sure if it meets your requirements, but I stayed at the Attalos Hotel in Athens and enjoyed my stay. The public areas were a little tired, but my room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The roof top bar was a great place to sit, relax and enjoy unobstructed views of the Acropolis. It's a short walk from the Monastiraki metro station and there are lots of good dining options nearby, so it's very conveniently located.
Another vote for the Attalos.
Acropolis select hotel is a gd choice with great buffet brfast and close to tourist sights.
We were pleased.
Stayed at Attalos. The rooftop bar is pretty great and the location is hard to beat for the price. The room we were in was also a bit worn around the edges, but was comfortable enough. We were only there one night, however.
Have you looked in the RS Greece guide book yet?
