Can anyone tell me why there are all of those plastic alligators over doorways in Venice? Thanks.
Are you talking about those plastic shoes that tourists wear and the locals find floating in the water of the canals... well, they are to signify a death in the house. Yes, the death of style . Means the local homeowner was found with Crocs in their possesion, the home owners always try to clain they are not theirs, that they just " found them" , but the fashion police never believe that lie, and to humilate the local, the shoes are nailed above the door of the home to show the shocking lack of taste the family has sunk to.. ROFLOL
Umm, sorry Barbara, my evil twin posted that ( PAT!!) . Sorry I really do not have the correct answer.
Gee Pat -- I wished that was true!
Hi Barbara,
I, also, wondered about this after my trip! Here's a link to a news article I found that explains that they are an art project - "This hot pink alligator - apparently some sort of art project - appears as if stuck to the front of several buildings in Venice."
They were a project for last year's Biennale. I'm glad they're still there!
