Pilot Program to Renew US Passport Online

UPDATE - We received our 'Next Generation' passports within 10 days.

The State Department 'silently' launched a Pilot Program to Renew US Passport Online. During the month of August, they will accept 25,000 online renewal applications on a first-come, first-served basis.

We chanced upon it August 2. My husband and I applied the very next day. (There is a 24-hr wait after you register online)

Checked our status today. Both my husband's and mine have been shipped!! SO IMPRESSED!!

Hurry!! :))

bethb - Please do. We are pretty amazed at their one-week turn-around time for non-expedited!

Frank - Will update once we receive them.

DallasMom must've gotten in before everyone else (or I am unlucky!) I submitted mine on 8/11. Still says "received" with no indication of processing yet (though I am not sure if it will state such information or not!). Just thought I'd check in if anyone was curious.

bethb's experience is why they have "Pilot Programs".

It is how you find out what you don't know

bethb, we applied the very next day after it opened up.... probably amongst the first few. Our status showed 'processing' within 15 mins of submission. I am pretty sure yours will happen soon.

We've got 5 years to go before renewal, hope they have the bugs worked out by then.

Adding my reply to here as well as the other thread. I submitted on 8/11, and just got an email this week that it was being processed. It now says it's printed, so I assume I should get it in the next week. Mine will be about 7 weeks processing if it does come next week. So not faster for me, but certainly easier to submit. And I wasn't in a hurry - no travel planned until next summer.
