Picture Translator card?

Has anyone used one of those folding cards with about a million little pictures on it that you point to as a universal way to communicate? The Kwikpoint international translator is one of them. https://www.kwikpoint.com/international-translators/ . If so, how did it work out for you?

I was once given a kwik point chart as a gift. Looks very well desingned but I have yet to come across any scenario where I needed to use it in all my travels. Anybody who wants your money will speak english;)

I agree, for most travel, basic communication is not a problem and more complex communication would not work well with that type of card. I do think if you were way off the beaten path, they may be handy, or places where English is rarely spoken, just does not apply to most of tourist Europe.

Interesting. I think this may be useful for the less traveled areas of the world, or maybe grave emergencies, so would not apply to me (still working my way through the more frequented spots). Even in parts of Europe where English is more scarce, I found pantomime and broken one-word expressions got me through.

I have actually had someone come up to ME with one of those travel cards. And it took me awhile to process the pictures on the card and figure out what they wanted. Other people may have walked away. But I saw it was a family and I saw their guidebook so I figured they needed help. But it took me a few minutes. I agree with the others that basic communication isn't a problem in most places. I don't know how much it is. But it if it is cheap, why not? If it is expensive, you could probably make your own.
