I'm thinking about taking my USB flash drive with me to backup my pictures while I'm backpacking around Europe. Is it possible/acceptable to take my camera and flash drive into cafes and transfer pictures?

You'll find plenty of places to transfer your pictures to disk or other media.

Yes, not a problem, provided you can find a cybernet cafe with open USB ports. We had difficulty in some places in Germany a few years ago where they sevured them so that they would not be infected with viruses. I carry my own compiuter and back up my wife's phots onto a flashdrive. I also prepare my travel journal on teh laptop then transfer it to the Internet. When I do not have WiFI, I take the flashdrive to teh cafe and up load from there.
