Has anyone ever used a pre-paid calling card to call back to the US? If so, did you purchase your card here in the US or over in Europe?
Linda,
I've used one before that I bought in Europe. As with phone cards here, they seem to vary in quality....a lot!
On a recent trip to Turkey, the hotel I stayed at had Skype installed on their computers so that you could call home (to another computer) for free.
You can easily buy them at any convenience store or gas station just about anywhere in Europe. I just buy the smallest denomination possible.
I've only used these in Italy, and there I bought pre-paid cards at the Tabacchaio (sp?) tobacco shops. Once I used one called WINNER (in Italy) and found it to be extremely reasonably priced.
I bought one in Paris last year, and it still has time left, and doesn't expire till 2009 so I can use it again this year. Just got it a Tabac.
I am traveling in Italy currently and found a prepaid card at American Express that for 5 Euro you get 210 minutes calling time to the US. Thought it was pretty reasonable and in other countries did not have a hard time finding calling cards to the US.
