Phone apps and wifi

What are your favorite apps or podcasts for your iPhone/itouch when you are in Europe or traveling to? Also, what was your experience with wifi - did you find it was more available or scarce? I am traveling to Barcelona London Paris Munich Salzburg Venice Florence cinque terre Rome Athens and nafplio.

I've downloaded a number of the RS podcasts and used them when travelling. In particular, I used the Musee D'Orsay tour on my last trip to Paris and the Venice Grand canal tour the year before.

One of the apps that I used a lot on my last trip was the Paris Metro app. I think this was a .99 app. It was much more convenient than using the metro map. You plugged in your start and end, and it showed you the route, where to transfer, approx time, etc.

I use the weather app and enter all the cities that I am visiting.

What I really use the most is email. I cut and paste all my travel research notes into word and send them to my gmail account. I usually create a document for each city. I then can launch the document when I'm travelling and look at my notes. As long as you have downloaded your mail, you don't need to be connected to the internet to do this. I have easy access to hotel confirmations, directions, museum hours, restaurant tips, and any other info that I have saved.

To where are you traveling? There are some apps that are specific to destinations.
