I am highly sensitive to scents (candles, perfume, colognes, sprays, etc) and was wondering if anyone has come across any type of aid for flyers with sensitive noses. I personally would love to ban perfumes/colognes for long flights but that is my fantasy.
Do you have an allergic reaction? I only have problems with some scents/perfumes, but allergy medicine helps.
I usually dislike most perfumes, etc too, but I never have noticed them on flights. It would seem that the powerful air circulation system they have on planes might suck all the aromas up and filter them out. Have you thought about wearing a mask, which would also help with any stray germs and virus' floating around in the air? Looks odd, but who cares if it helps you.
Cate, I get the runny nose, tearing eyes, sneezing, etc. I would rather not have to wear a mask (do enough of that at work in hospital).
Do you take a regular allergy medicine like Claritin or Zyrtec (or a prescription med)? I find I have much less problem when I am on allergy meds!
Compared to some of the scents I have detected over the years on airplanes, perfumes & colognes would be a welcome relief!
It's all the women trying out the duty-free perfumes. I stopped doing it after I tried one I didn't like and was stuck with it trans-atlantic. Ugh.
I have a senstivive nose too, but perfumes made in Europe actually don't bother me, just those made here in the US.They are stronger and contain different ingridients than the European ones.
I don't believe you or someone else will be able to ban perfumes in flights.I guess you can try to take some meds,a s mentioned by someone else.
Roberta, hopefully you will be ok. I am also highly sensitive to perfumes. I have been very fortunate and have never got a horrible-painful headache on international flights.
