Passport Requirement

Am traveling to Italy returning October 29th. My passport expires in February 2008, four months after my return date. I would like to avoid the current long wait to renew my passport before going, but have gotten confusing information on whether there is a requirement in Italy or the US for my passport to be valid for 3 or 6 months following my scheduled return. I contacted 4 Italian consulates, got four responses, two say 3 months and two said 6 months. Can anyone give me a definitive answer? Thank you!

According to the Italian Consulate's New York website, it is 3 months. http://tinyurl.com/37wmes Print out the web page and take it with you. In case the immigration officials or even the airline give you any crap, you have it in writing.

I have had the same problem w/travel to Poland.
We have 4 mos left on ours also, Different
answers from the Consulates.
I emailed the American Embassy in WArsaw and they
told me my passport was good for travel. I don't
know if documents will be any good if you get a
cranky immigration officer.
I also checked with Lot a/l to see if our pp was
valid for the plane. They said yes. You might
call your a/l, at least you would know if they
will let you board. At this point we would have
to go with an outside expediter. Much money!!!
Keep us posted.

Michael S, I do have a copy of this from New York
consulates office. However, I received an email
from them stating it must be good for 6 mos. I
emailed them back questioning the descrepancy, no
answer, yet.
I am in the jurisdiction of the consulate in Los
Angeles. I have been unable to speak to anyone, have left messages and 2 emails, nothing!! There
is nothing on their website about the time frame
for passports.

I just went to the LA Consulate's website and it states the following: "passport valid for at least 3 months from the date of intended departure from Poland, with at least one blank page to affix the visa".

Michel S. I found another los angeles website
that gave the extentions of the different depts.
And was told it is 3 mos. Yea!
I told her that there was not a specific area
for passport information, only for visas.
She said she was going to change that.
I did find where it 90 day for pp for people
applying for a visa.
But it should be separate to clearly define it.
Thanks again for looking up all the websites.

O.K. Michael S. I guess I am just lame, because
I can only find info on visas. Are you using
one of those tinurl addresses. Where did you find
them.
It is interesting that the Consulate in La gives
detailed info on visas, but nothing on passports.
Send me the web address that you found this on.
Thanks
