Just want to report that my snail mail passport renewal took 25 days. I thought that was pretty reasonable.
Thank you. I really need to a name change on mine, but we travel so much it's hard to give it up to do that. (It's good for 7 more years). I have 5 months between our next 2 trips, so I will bite the bullet. I appreciate the encouragement to "let it go".
That is pretty good. Earlier this year I had to renew my TSA Precheck, all online, simple process, just a few questions and pay them...but that took 8 weeks to come through.
I had to send my passport to Washington, DC, to acquire a visa for an upcoming trip. I used FedEx. It took almost two weeks for it to arrive. For a while they didn't know where it was (still in Guadalajara? In Memphis awaiting customs clearance? No one seemed to know. The tracking information showed it was still in Mexico, and the next tracking update, twelve days later, was that it arrived at Dulles.)
The return shipping from Washington to me took less than a day and the tracking information updated every time it moved.
This was the first time I was unable to acquire a visa or ETA online.
Next year I'm taking another trip to a country that requires I supply my physical passport. I think I will use the embassy in Mexico City. I might even fly there and deliver it personally. Better than worrying that FedEx lost it.
My passport expires in 2028. I hope I can renew at the consulate in Guadalajara. Or maybe by then I'll be able to renew online.
