I'm hoping I'm seriously overthinking this. My plane ticket has my middle name spelled out, but my passport has only my middle initial. Will this be a problem?
I would be stunned if it did, (but I am not the ticket agent or any other official who might have cause to examine it)
More likely to be a problem if it were the other way around. ( but even then someone would have to be REALLY picky)
It is not a problem either way. I generally skip the middle name on the airline ticket. Now ----- if the middle name and middle initial don't match, that is a different question.
When purchasing our airline tickets I try to enter our full names including full middle names so that our full names are in the airline data base. You don't want to have a similar name to someone on the "no fly list".
You can search the TSA list: http://www.no-fly-list.com/
You don't need to have middle eastern sounding name to be on the list.

Thanks! I bought the ticket before I got my passport. I put the middle name on the ticket because I thought it would be on my passport, but they only put the initial. I know I'm probably just getting pre-trip jitters. We leave on May 27th.
Don't worry about it. It won't be an issue. In fact, lots of airlines (mostly international) have no place to indicate a middle name or an initial. In fact, I bought tickets 2 days ago on Belavia (Belarussian airline) and didn't bother with the middle initial.
Thanks Arnold! I'm flying United.
I don't think you'll have any issues based on what I've read on other travel forums. If you are still feeling nervous, though, do you have a driver's license that does show your name as it's printed out on your ticket?
Still - you shouldn't have any issues. Hope you have a safe trip!
Since you're not flying WOW Airlines from Canada, you'll be fine. https://globalnews.ca/news/4158186/middle-names-missing-wow-air-tickets/
We just flew Luthsansa to and from Europe with the reverse situation. And probably have done so before.
I couldn't let this go, it was worrying me so badly. I called Travelocity because I booked the flight through them, and they called United and got the middle name corrected to just the initial on my ticket. It was actually pretty easy, and didn't cost me anything. I'm so relieved! Now I can enjoy the anticipation until I fly on Sunday.
Good. I hope that is you most serious problems. You sound like you might really internalize small problems. Relax there are lots of other thing that may not be perfect. Learn to go with the flow.
Thanks Frank. I can be a worry wart, but I'm generally pretty optimistic. I don't expect everything to be perfect. But this could have (maybe) derailed the whole trip, so I'm glad it's been taken care of. I'm relaxed now and intend to remain so up until travel day. I'm pretty organized, and everything else is pretty much on track, although I know snafus happen. I'll be sure to report on the trip when it's done.
I'll be sure to report on the trip when it's done.
I'm glad you were able to get the problem fixed! Have a wonderful adventure. I'm looking forward to hearing about your travels!
Airlines that participate in the TSA Pre-check program are quite used to the middle name changes and tweaks on tickets and reservations since it can require any middle names on the ticket to exactly match the name used to get a KTN (Known Traveler Number) for Pre to correctly attack itself to flight segments the require you to clear a USA security checkpoint.
My personal favorite is when my first and middle names are strung together (no spaces, no capital first letter for my middle name) on the ticket until the character spaces run out. So far, nobody anywhere has seemed to care, but that doesn't mean I won't have an issue with that someday.

Yup, the above happens to me too. I've never had an issue in decades of travel.
