Passport Fee

Hi,
My husband and I need to renew our passports. I want to send all our passport renewal forms ect.. in one envelope. Can I send in one check for the both of us? It tells you to print or type the full name and date of birth of the applicant on the front of the check. Can I write both our names on the check?

Thanks,
Wendy

It would be easier and less confusion if you just sent two checks.

Since I've never had to mail in both at the same time, anything I said would just be a guess. I think you should ask Dept. of State directly so you don't rely on the wrong answer.

I'd guess they will probably take one check if they are mailed in the same envelope, but wouldn't want you to rely on that.

The State Dept has a helpline phone number--you'll have to look it up at their website--which is very helpful. You actually get to speak to someone who will find the answer to your question. And, at least last year, wasn't farmed out overseas.

If you bring the application, pictures, expired passport and checks to the post office they will help you sort out the best way to send it as well as affix the pictures correctly.

They did end up putting our passports in the same envelope and it worked fine. We did write 2 different checks though.

Sadly, your nice understated, old blue passport will be replaced by an obnoxious, multi-coloured fiasco. All they need to add to it is a microchip that plays a Lee Greenwood song when it opens.

I agree with Tyson regarding taking your application, pics, check, etc to the post office. Just recently renewed (husband renewed 3 mos earlier) and clerk at P.O. was very helpful and said it would take 3 weeks which it did and old pp and the new one arrived on the same day in separate envelopes. One check for both may not be the best idea.
