Passport expires in 2 months

Hi everyone,
We’re in a bit of a stressful situation and hoping someone here might have any insight or advice.

My parents just realized the night before our trip to Norway that their passports expire in 2 months. We’re flying from the U.S. with a layover in Amsterdam. I know the general rule is that your passport should be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area, which means we’re technically short.

Has anyone dealt with something similar or know if there’s any flexibility with this rule? Are we just completely out of luck at this point, or is there anything we can try (emergency appointments, etc.)? We know it’s not ideal and we’re kicking ourselves for not catching it sooner, but would really appreciate any advice or experience anyone can share.

Thanks so much.

Thanks for the replies. We are flying from Salt Lake City.

It sounds like we might be out of luck.

Utah doesn’t have an office for these expedited passports. They’d have to try Seattle or Colorado or California.
You could ask the airline to delay their flights for a couple of days and try to get them appointments at one of these offices.

I assume you’re flying Delta with that routing. At the very least, their tickets can likely be exchanged for a credit that they can use for travel for a year.

To visit Norway, your passport must be valid three months past the day you plan to LEAVE Norway.

The airline won't let you board the plane and even if you got past the airline, the Noway border police would put you on the next plane back.
