We will be driving from Villefranche to Monaco and want to stop in Eze. How much is the parking at the top lot I've read about? Is it worth stopping if we only have about an hour or two to spend?
If you have two hours, its worth it. I wouldn't bother going for one hour. I don't remember the exact cost so I think that means it must have been a reasonable cost. We parked at the lot by the TI. Are you traveling onward from Monaco or is this a day trip from Villefranche? If you are daytripping, it would make much more sense to take the bus to Monaco and back. That is exactly what we did. We had time to then drive to Eze for the afternoon (you can also bus it there but there are changes so we decided to drive). RS's books cover the details on the very easy and convenient bus.
Eze is beautiful! Our tour guide parked at the bottom, across from the grocery store and we walked up and back down. We were there for about 2 hours, stopping into the little shops. If he's still there.. there was an older gentleman with a woodworking shop. He carves all these magnificent things out of olive wood. We bought an herbes de Provence grinder and its probably our favorite souvenir! The grocery store at the bottom sells water and other stuff cheaply. The fruit we got was amazing there!
what "top lot"? There is one lane up the hill, very narrow, only wide enough for a cart, very steep, with steps every few feet. There must be a way the hotel gets its produce but I've never seen a top lot. Do you have 4 wheel drive?
