What mode of transport would you recommend for family of 11…6 adults, 5 kids next July traveling from Paris to London. We have 3 nights in Paris and then plan for one night in London possibly near Waterloo station for train the nxt day for a cruise out Southampton. My husband and I have done this ourselves…train once and also ferry…but never any regional flights. What might be best? Cost wise, ease of travel stops, time…etc? We realize we will lose much of that day with any form of travel…in best case scenario. We as family have taken various trips together…so are experienced travelers.. Thank you for any thoughts/suggestions.
The train from Gare du Nord to St Pancras only takes 2 1/2 hours, and with the 1 hour time change, seems even faster. There are considerable cost savings if you book as soon as your date becomes available. For example, trains leaving tomorrow cost roughly 3 times what the same train booked for the first week of Feb, which is as far out as they go right now.
From London to Southampton you can take a train or coach.
Fly to Southampton.
Twice a week, Easyjet flies nonstop from Paris Orly to Southampton. Those days change depending on when you are going.
For a group of 11, contact the airline. You may qualify for group rates.
On Eurostar there is a group discount of 10% for groups of over 10 people- you need to contact them by web form or calling them during UK business hours.
There are also various overnight ferries with Brittany Ferries from French ports to Portsmouth from which it is an easy transfer to Southampton.
