Paris to Amsterdam Itinerary Check

Hello everyone. My boyfriend and I will be traveling from the States to Iceland for a two day layover and then off to Paris. I need a little guidance for the mainland Europe portion. Here's the plan.

Day 1 Arrive in Paris on Saturday at 1p.
Day 2 Paris
Day 3 Paris and travel to Luxemborg.
Day 4 Luxemborg
Day 5 Luxemborg and travel to Brugge
Day 6 Brugge
Day 7 Brugge and travel to Amsterdam
Day 8 Amsterdam
Day 9 Amsterdam (flight leaves 2pm)

We haven't bought train tickets yet so I'm sure what time of day we'll be traveling.
On day 9 he heads back to the States but I will be in Europe for another 3 weeks or so. I'll post help with this part later. I know its not long in Paris but I will be flying out of Paris and plan on spending more time there on the end of my trip. Is this reasonable? Doable? Any thoughts or recommendations? Also, I've been to England before otherwise this is the 1st time we've been to Europe. I'm 28 and he's 30. I know he wants to see architecture stuff and history.

Thank you!

Your allotted time in Brugge is about right. But I agree with James. As much time in Luxembourg as in Paris (for your boyfriend) and Amsterdam? Is there some specific reason you have included this, other than to say "Been there"? I'm not saying Luxembourg isn't worth visiting on a longer trip or on your 4th trip to the continent, but for first-timers, spend your valuable time elsewhere.

I think this is both reasonable and doable, assuming these destinations reflect your priorities. Let your boyfriend worry about these nine days so that you can think more about the 3 weeks you will spend on your own afterward.

Have fun!

Thanks for the input about Luxembourg. If we cut out Luxembourg completely any suggestions on other places? My boyfriend just said the castles and the magical description in the tour guide got him interested but otherwise no specific desire to go. Just trying to figure out where to go between Paris and Amsterdam. He would like to go to part of Germany if possible. Would it be advisable to skip Belgium and add a little Germany or just take out Luxembourg and add time to our other places? Maybe another stop in France or day trips?

Thanks James. As were talking I think that might be what we end up doing. The other option would be to take out Belgium and go to the Rhine Valley. Travel wise Belgium makes more sense.

And why good luck with Iceland?

Aside from the Volcanic ash of course? Not leaving til mid July so hopefully it will stop by then.

"Going to the Rhine from Amsterdam isn't really that far." Umm... actually the Rhine gorge is pretty far outside their direction of travel.

If you want to see a castle, visit Ghent on the way to or from Brugge (personally, I like Ghent better). Het Gravensteen is a large medieval fortress that sits right in the center of the city, within site of De Graslei, which in my humble opinion, is the single most beautiful street in Europe.

IMHO, James has put together a spot-on schedule for an exciting and relaxing (hard to do) holiday. I love Germany, too but I'd save it for another adventure.

We've decided on the itinerary James suggested and left out Germany. Thanks everyone for your input!
