Julia Child's Coq au Vin. Simply one of the best dishes/recipes ever. Maybe not Parisian but as quintessentially French as I can imagine. The recipe from the WGBH website is unadorned by others' interpretations. No fancy ingredients nor haute cuisine technique required. Most (or all) can be prepped day ahead and warmed for serving. We invited friends for dinner last weekend...he requested again, (euphemistically speaking) , Coq au Vin and told me after 2 bites that I could cook this and nothing else for as long as I would have them to dinner. We sadly finish it off tonight ( it keeps well, too). Started with Frisee aux lardons salad with poached egg and finished with an apple tart with frozen puff pastry. As Julia would say, Bon Appetit!

Thanks Denny
I was thinking that is what it should be... And love that it can be done ahead of time.
I have not made it before so will follow Julia's recipe.

Or, you could come up from Columbus and prepare it for us:))
Happy New Year.

Well, I guess I could. But when the Columbus Dispatch headline reads " Local man caters party in That Town up North'' (as it is often referred to down here), my life wouldn't be worth a day old croissant. Thanks anyway. Have fun!! and happy new year to you as well.

Ha!
Guess it has been so long since I cared about football....(back to Woodie & Bo) that I forget:)
Thanks for the PM.
Happy new year and I will let you know how it turns out.
We are also doing an orange tarragon chicken.

Maybe a Tarte Tatin for dessert? Easy to make, pleasing to the eye, and so very delicious.

Thanks for all the ideas.... I am spending the day adding more France/Paris theme decorations to my home.... Which is already decorated 'a la Europe '. We always have a great party when my daughter comes home but am especially looking forward to this one to celebrate our beloved Paris!

This is the Tarte Tatin recipe I use:

http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/tarte-tatin-752

I generally make 2/3 of the recipe (1 c. sugar, 1/3 C butter, 8 apples, etc) and cook it in a smaller skillet---I think it is 8.5 inches. The sloping sides are essential. That makes 8 servings. For a crowd you might want to make the whole recipe, if you have the right size pan.
