Paris or Rome for Christmas?

Like many others, I’m sure, we are hoping that we may be able to make a trip to Europe by the end of this year. We had an Italy trip that we had to cancel the summer of 2020. The potential trip won’t be to make up for this one since we would make this a shorter trip to just one place.
If you had to pick between Paris or Rome for around a week at Christmas time which would be the place to go? We’ve been to Paris a couple of times so we know it a little, but only our oldest has been to Rome (she was in a study abroad right at the very, very beginning of the pandemic) so she could be our tour guide. Which would have the most open, not related to covid, but to holiday hours?
Even the thought of going somewhere has us excited! Would love to hear any input.
Thank!

How long is this trip? As one who has traveled regularly to Europe from 2014-2019 over the xmas break, including Rome and Paris around that time of year, everything is open equally in both cities except on Xmas and New Years Day and very busy with tourists from around the world. You only see a few small mom and pop businesses closed. I would choose Rome since you have never been there and the weather is warmer.

I would do Rome just because of the potential for better weather. We have been in Paris over New years and it was cold and rainy BUT with the lights, Paris is beautiful at that time of year. And being much further north Paris daylight is less. I would still opt for Rome.

Sorry, I don't see going to Europe during the Winter, but if you have to decide, pick the warmest place. Rome

Thanks for all of your input, sounds like Rome should be our choice based pretty much on the same reasons my daughter said.
We will of course be waiting a little longer before we make any real plans, (my daughter had to leave her study abroad early due to covid so we don’t want to do that twice). Just the thought of planning a trip has been a mood lifter in our house, if Christmas doesn’t happen I feel pretty good about going in the spring.
Thank you!!
