Traveling to Paris in April and going to Normandy for two nights. Any advice on places to stay, favorite restaurants and tours to take (private/group)?
Thank you!
When I visited Normandy l stayed in Bayeux at the hotel Reine Mathilde. Centrally located easy walking distance from the train station and attractions such as the Bayeux Tapestry, and near to the pick up point for D-Day tours.
We stayed at the Churchill Hotel in Bayeux and really enjoyed it. We rented a car and did our own tour. Most of the sites have decent parking.
In Paris, we have stayed at the Hôtel Les Jardins d'Eiffel and the Renaissance Paris Republique Hotel (used Marriott points for this one). The Les Jardins d'Eiffel is close to Rue Cler and our room had a view of the Eiffel Tower. The Renaissance is close to a big metro stop so transportation was easy.
Many threads on this topic, via the search feature above. I suggest a train to Bayeux and both nights there. If the D-Day sites interest you, an all-day tour with Overlord or Dale Somebody (named in many threads). Bayeux has a good cathedral, the famous tapestry, and a good museum. With this plan you won't need a car. If you want to visit other places like Rouen, Honfleur, and/or Mont-St-Michel, you'll probably want to rent a car, and Caen is a better place than Bayeux to do that.
April is around the corner, so don't delay especially booking a tour.
I stayed in Bayeux also at La Tour Louise Maison d'hotes, a small b&b in an historic building by the cathedral. I loved it - nice owner, good breakfast, great location.
Highly recommend Hotel Particulier Poppa in Bayeaux. Philippe and Sophie are fabulous hosts and there is the possibility of a complimentary parking spot if someone else has not already taken it. Private tour with Sylvain Kast was one of the best we have ever taken. https://www.d-day-experience-tours.com/
Hi, I wrote a trip report about Paris and Normandy a few years back. You might find it helpful.
Don't miss the 900 year old Bayeux Tapestry, it is amazing.
