Paris Metro Pass-only for French residents? (Navigo that replaced Orange)

I heard that the Navigo card can only be purchased by French residents. Correct?

Anyone have success buying / using it?

[The Navigo has replaced the Orange card/Paris Weekly Metro Pass].

The Paris-Visite card looks expensive - but if there is not a Orange card-like option, is 10-carnet the way to go?

It depends on how much travel you plan on doing. There is always the Mobilis day pass if it is just a day you will be doing a lot of travel.

Usually, when I go to Paris it is via Eurostar that plops me right at Gare du Nord and I just need a few tickets either a carnet or one split between friends.

My current trip will include more extended travel so the ParisVisite will more than make up for the cost.

From what I read about the Navigo, it appears that you can still purchase the Carte Orange and the Navigo is where it can be loaded alternatively. I'd guess this is some transition period being trialed before it is rolled out for all stations and entrances.

London has the Oyster which is pay as you go or with weekly or monthly options. I imagine the Navigo will act the same way.

Hard to imagine no more coupon litter!

Graham, when i was there in June they had the orange card still.

With the 3 of us, we opted to use the carnet 10 pack. It came out cheaper because we did more walking than using the bus or metro.

For 10 days we ended up buying 3, 10 packs... costing 10,60 per person. Its like 26 for the Orange card, right?? My husband couldn't justify the cost... especially if the rate is per week, and we had already missed 2 days

The passe Navigo is for residents. The passe Navigo Decouverte is for visitors so that is the one on which you can load a Carte Orange. See here. During the transition period, each month fewer stations will carry the old paper Carte Orange.
