Where can you get an advanced ticket to the Louvre. Does it have to be the Musuem Pass. Also does any know how to get from the the airport CDG to St Sulpice Metro station.

If you are only going to the Louve you can buy them at its website, http://www.louvre.fr/en (print at home before travel, no museum pickup). I am using the multiday Museum Pass because I am visiting several museums this trip. The Pass can only be purchased in person. On a personal note, I will recommend visiting the d'Orsay Museum, too. It is across the Siene from the Lourve. It doesn't have the Mona Lisa, but it does have all the art that many people associate with France (Monet, Manet, Van Gogh, etc.).

Catherine - From CDG take the RER B to Les Halles(direction Robinson). From Les Halles take the Metro 4 line to St Sulpice(direction Porte d'Orleans (General Leclerc). The cost will be 9.80 euro. You can by your ticket at the machines in the RER station at CDG. You can get information on the Paris metro at www.ratp.fr. Hopefully Tim, Lee or Ed will see your post and provide a little more info.

... And, of course, you can always just buy your ticket at the museum - either at the ticket counter or from a ticket kiosk. Although we've always purchased museum passes at the Louvre, we've never waited in line...Your longest line will probably be the line for security :-(

To be precise, take the RER B from CDG to Chatelet-Les Halles. Walk through the connecting tunnels to the Chatelet Metro station and take line 4 to St-Sulpice. The fare is €9.25.

The long security line to enter the Louvre is at the main entrance at the Pyramid. If you go to the Carousel entrance, the security line is usually much much shorter, or even non-existent. Having a pass, or indeed a ticket, will not affect your wait in the security line. Once you are through security, there are several ticket counters in the main hall. Look around, sometimes one or two will have long lines while another will have no line. You can also use the ticket machines. If you want to rent an audio guide for the Louvre, there are two stations. Be sure to remember which one you used since you will have to return the guide to the same place to retrieve your photo ID (driver's license is best).

What Chani says about using Carosuel entrance is correct , was there a few days ago,, and though line at Pyramid for security was insane, we as usuaul waited no more then 5 minutes to go through security after using mall entrance an this time we just bought our tickets at the Tabac in mall( when you enter READ S|IGNS it there is one that clearly point to a Tabac( on your right) that sells Musuem entrances and passes.. why wait when just walking down a corridor 30 feet saves you so much hassle. Louvre insanely busy, get there at openinng or never mind lines,, its the crowds inside that can be defeatinng and tirinng. Visit lesser known areas( Mona is for those with binoculars cause thats the only way you can see her after about 10 am , a small dark blob in distance about sea of heads)

As Pat says, the acoustics in the Louvre are generally awful, especially in the Egyptian wing. If you go late on Wednesday or Friday, when the galleries are open until around 9.30 p.m., it is usually pretty empty and quiet - even around the Mona Lisa.
