There are many posts on this website about both. Type apartments in the search box at the upper left and pull the lever.

Personally, for a week, I would go with an apartment. In fact, I just returned from a weeks stay in a Paris apartment. The owner was great and the whole process went smoothly. We used Parisattitude.com, but I've seen many other apartment agencies noted herein that also did a great job.

For our first trip of 5 nights in Paris we stayed in a small hotel. The room was very small and there was no way 3 people could share it. Our next trip of 10 nights and 3 people we will stay in a one bedroom apartment. We got it through VRBO (#5967) and are paying in dollars. It is much less expensive than most hotels, but in a great area (Latin Quarter-5th). I'm sure the apartment will be much more comfortable than a small hotel room. Check it out on line.

We have used apts in Paris for the last two years (a week each time). We prefer the St. Germain area (6th arrondisement) because it's so easy to walk to many of the things we wanted to see/do. We used www.ILoveParisApartments.com this year ... www.vacationinparis.com last year. We have also used www.vrbo.com for an apt in Belgium. No problems with using any of them.

Do a google search for apartments by city district. I always like them better because you can reduce your food costs by visiting a local supermarket for whatever you like.

Always inspect the apartment before renting to be sure it meets your needs. The owners won't mind because most travelers do it.

3 of us were there in June and stayed 1/2 block from Notre Dame in a 1 bedroom apartment. I really liked our apartment. The use of a full kitchen and a washer came in handy. I used rentalo.com and got a 8 night rental for 111 euros a night.

For a day trip out of the city, it depends where you want to go. We opted to rent a car and went to the Normandy region: Dday beaches, War memorial, Mont St. Michel and Bayeux.
