My husband and I will be in Paris for a week the last week in Sept.We plan on traveling to Dijon,Beaune and Lyon by train. Do we need advance resevation? What train travels to these cities and what train station will we depart from? I would appreciate any information. Thank You Shirley
Hi Shirley, I assume you are staying over in each place? If so, you are looking for Paris to Dijon, then Dijon to Beaune, then Beaune to Lyon? The TGV to Dijon leaves for the Gare Lyon and takes less than two hours. If it were me, I would just wait and get the ticket in Paris. Have fun...
Thank you Linda you have answered our questions. We are staying in Dijon two nights Beaune and Lyon three nights. We will go back to Paris to fly home.
FYI, I was surprised how much more expensive trains seemed to be in France compared with other countries. Even though I wasn't covering a huge amount of territory, it was cheaper to get a 4-use France pass than buy individual tickets (although you'll also need to pay for seat reservations for the high-speed trains, so factor that in). The train info folks at RS office were very helpful in sorting it out. Also, I'd suggest booking the high-speed trains a little early if you don't have much flexibility in your plans; this May, I found some routes I wanted sold out for seats in the train I wanted.
Shirley, if you are sure of your dates and times, you can save around 1/3 of the ticket price by buying now on the trains going to and from Paris...go to tgv-europe.com/en/ and click on 'Great Britain' when it asks for your country. The middle trips are pretty inexpensive. After looking at the schedules and prices, you may decide you'd rather have the flexibility of purchasing there, but if you've already reserved your hotels, might as well save a little $$$ for that wine ;-)
Thank you Sherry for the information. I have made a copy of your e-mail and will have it with us. Shirley
Thanks Mary we will check the on the trains before we go. Yes we do want money for wine. Shirley
I like you - a woman with her priorities straight ;-)
