We are going to Paris in October 2009 for a week. We want to visit another city for 4 days. Inside or outside of France would be ok. Brussels by train from Paris? Somewhere with cheap airfare from Paris? Anywhere else?
What about London?
Depends on what you enjoy doing.
It's 4 hours by train to Amsterdam. There are cheap tickets up for grabs - you need to be online when they go on sale (exactly 3 months in advance). I got a one-way ticket for 25 euro - called the smoove fare. Brussels is closer, but not as interesting. If you don't have your plane tickets yet, you may be able to get open jaw flights for about the same price as the return fare from Paris.
Or London by train. Also relatively fast and inexpensive.
A major advantage to trains is departing and arriving in or near city centers, as opposed to airports which are miles and miles from where you want to be.
London is only 2.5 hours by train.Better then flying too as check in is only 1/2 hour before departure, and you travel city center to city center. Tickets if bought in advance can be quite cheap too!
Unless you’ve already visited, I’ll also recommend London as a very logical option. Eurostar makes the trip quick and convenient. Probably stating the obvious, but it’s a world-class city and shouldn’t be missed.
You could easily do London.
you could easily do amsterdam for 3 days and Brussles for one.
What about southern france....you can take the train to Nice or fly to Nice on Easy jet. In Nice you could do 4 days there and do a day trip to Monocco, you could also stop and see Eze (which is one of the hilights on my last trip to France)
You can get to Avignon in less than 3 hours on TGV. October is a good month to visit. In general the prices for hotels, restaurants are less than in Paris and there are many day trips to take.
Keep in mind , trip is only one week, I wouldn't go nuts ...
I would probably choose a Benelux combination for 4 days by train.
Hi Roger,
You already have a lot of great suggestions--here's one more! We enjoyed spending time in Paris and then 4 days in Lyon last January. The food in Lyon is great and it's an interesting part of France to visit.
Another option would be the Alsace region of France--Colmar and/or Strasbourg.
