Paper tickets

I have a somewhat complicated itinerary for international travel this summer. When I purchased my tickets from Orbitz (US Airways), I had to buy paper tickets -- there was no alternative. My concern is confirming these tickets, since I usually keep track of my e-tickets several weeks in advance of the trip. Anyone familiar with confirming paper tickets? I just don't want to run into huge problems with this later on. Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated!

You typically don't have to confirm flights these days. Simply show up at the airport on the day of the flight and check-in for your flight at the desks. The only difference with e-tickets is that you won't be able to print your boarding pass at home or use one of the automatic kiosks at the airport.

Thanks! I'm just a worrier, I guess -- I confirm everything when I leave the country each year. I was particularly worried about time changes on the flight more than anything.

Thanks again!

What is great about e-tickets if you don't have to worry about losing them or theft. Be sure to carry your paper tickets in your neck pouch or whatever you use to keep things safe on you. A few years ago a friend lost her paper ticket and they made her pay a second time for the same tickets. I don't know if this still applies to all lost paper tickets.

I agree, you don't have to confirm any type of tickets anymore, but if you purchase them long time in advance, you should check your flights to make sure they are in the same day/time.
With e-ticekts you will need the email printed out with the confirmation number, so you get the paper tickets at the airport when you check in.

you wil just have to keep them safe in your money belt the whole time. Make copies for information-only back up just incase, then put the originals in a plastic baggie in your money belt. Y

I hope you get this message before you leave.

As a former travel agent I can tell you that without a doubt a paper ticket is just like cash. If it is stolen, it will cost you that days one-way fare to take your flight - discounts rarely apply to last minute purchases. Keep them as safe as you would your passport or cash.

YES!!!!! you should always reconfirm your flights, regardless of paper or e-tickets status. Flight schedules can change radically. Phone the local office of the applicable airline. Generally you will have no trouble finding someone who speaks English. If you can't find their numbers, try dropping into a local travel agency.

CJ, thanks so much, it's really nice to hear these suggestions. Thanks, too, for the advice about protecting the paper tickets ... that's one issue I hadn't thought of. It's scary, especially considering that I wasn't given the option to get e-tickets.

I would recommend not only confirming your flight, but, keep an eye on it every few weeks from now until you fly. Recently, two of my coworkers had flights cancelled that were scheduled for June. Ironically they are both getting married out of the country, and both had the same experience.

For future reference, you can often find the flight you want on Orbitz, then call the airline directly to get the same price. When you call them directly they will issue e-tickets and you avoid the service charges that Orbitz adds on to issue paper tickets. Saved me over $50 in fees!
