Packing Tips/Organizers at Container Store - Tips for FREE!!

Not to advertise purchasing anything, we've seen a gazillion quesions on the packing cubes, systems, etc. I received a flyer in the mail and was intriqued by the "Pack-It Folders" which has 3 sizes. I've wondered about getting it but wanted to see a demo. If there is a Container Store near you, they're doing demonstrations of "Perfect Packing". In the ad it was listed as occuring on Saturday and Sunday at 1 and 3pm until July 5th.

I don't consider myself a novice traveler, but I've been debating on these folders for a while - but wanted to see them work. At the demo I went to today, I had a chance to see them and the packing cubes in action. I'll end up going back for some of the smaller cubes (for socks & undies) as I have to pack for a trip to Dallas in August.

I don't want anyone to think I am advertising for the Container Store, but its free advice - even to those who are not novice travelers. Another customer who was at the demo was preparing for a cruise and they offered to pack her stuff for her if she brought it to the store! I would love to see that! No purchase was necessary. Just trying to pass along information.

Have a nice summer!

Bonne, the packing cubes are great! It lets you organize your luggage so you can get what you need in seconds, even at the airport or on the train. I have a cube with all my electronics (camera, Ipod, chargers, etc), one with my travel materials (reservations, itinerary, pages from guidebooks, etc), some for shirts, and so on.

However instead of putting socks, underwear, t-shirts, fleece vests, etc. in a cube I'd suggest using compression sacks. These are the bags that you roll up and squeeze air out of. They wrinkle items, but for things that it doesn't matter they save a good amount of space.

Not only do I love packing cubes for being organized, but several friends who had never heard of them now swear by them after seeing mine! I was also curious about the Pack-It-Folders, but they don't seem as convenient unless you are just going to one location and unpacking. Otherwise you have to completely undo the whole thing to get something, then redo it.

I recently attended this demo too. There were only three of us and they gave away a $25 gift certificate at the end (picked a name out of a hat). I didn't win :(, but also enjoyed seeing the packing tips and sharing tips with other folks-and it only took around 10 minutes.

We have always used the packing folders -- one per bag for pants and shirts. It will put a crease in the clothing but no wrinkles. I think compression bags are a waste of money when a zip lock with accomplish about 90 % of the same thing for one tenth the cost. Use the heavy duty freeze type. Second we always write on the zip lock the contents. Helps with repacking and insures nothing gets lost.

Not only do the packing cubes and ziploc bags keep me organized, but I also am glad not to have my clothing and personal items "manhandled" by TSA workers at the airport.

The Pack-It Folders are terrific. You can simply take the entire folder out of the suitcase and plop it in a drawer. To pull out one item from the folder, you simply slip the plastic "board" under the item you want and pull it out. Works great...I even use the small one in a little duffle bag I always take to my boat. Before I used a large freezer zip-lock bag, but it was difficult to retrieve one item without disturbing the others. They are pricey--but well worth it! (I only use the medium and small)
