Trying to pack for 6 week trip to Italy, printed the 'packing light list' however was wondering if the list included what you wear! Or are you wearing items from the list when you get on the plane! Thanks
I can't speak for anyone else's list, by mine is a packing list, what I will pack. What I wear is extra. The clothing I pack is generally three more shirts, 2 pair of slacks, and two more pair of underwear. All I need is enough to assure that what I have has time to dry. Everynight, I wash what was worn that day. I would pack the same for three nights or six weeks. I also pack a medium weight sweater to wear under my jacket, which is a light weight summer jacket in the warmer months and a down parka in the colder months.
Packing for 1 week, 1 month, or longer, it's all the same. Here's what I usually take: Wear on plane- black cotton-blend pants, solid T-shirt with "big shirt" over (button up long sleeve), water proof windbreaker, good walking shoes. Pack in carryon: 2-4 pair black or khaki cotton-blend pants(maybe 1 or 2 pair capris subbed), 3-5 T-shirts/polos , 1 or 2 "big shirts", optional -a sweater/cardigan that goes with all of above. 3-5 bras, enough panties for at least 1 week, same with socks. Pjs (maybe). Hand wipes, stain wipes, first aid "kit" in a baggie- band-aids, small packets of Neosporin, Aleve, Benadryl, Dramamine, Nyquil gel capsules, etc.), sewing "kit" (thread wrapped around a small piece of cardboard, 2 needles, buttons, safety pins), medications, medical info sheet, insurance info, 3-1-1 bag with deodorant, perfume, shampoo (can use as laundry soap), lipstick, chap stick, toothpaste, etc., another quart baggie with eye shadow, blush, powder, comb, brush, tweezers, razor, clippers, etc. , "feminine supplies", wash cloth. Optional- scarves, hat, phone, charger, adapter plug, camera & charger, extra memory cards, paper & pen, extra shoe liners, umbrella, baggie with plastic spoons, forks and knives and napkins, extra ziplocs of all sizes, and a day pack. Hubby gets by with a bit less. My suitcase will weigh about 12-15 lbs. and hubby's will weigh 10 or a little less. We even did a month long, around the world, trip with the same type stuff! It all fits in Rick's bags that we bought more than 20 years ago and that still looks almost new. I carry the day pack and move stuff into it as needed.
I use large ziplocks and the clear zipped bags sheets come in instead of packing cubes.
My pack list includes what I wear. I usually put everything together then set aside what I'll wear on the plane. Normally that includes my warm layers because the plane can be cold and my heavier shoes (I bring two pairs so I have a change). Leave extra room in your bag to accomodate those items when you're not wearing them.
My list is separated into items that are packed and what will be worn. The list also includes items such as passport, travel wallet, boarding passes, etc. I go over everything one last time just prior to leaving home for the airport. No missing passport for me! My wife packs everything without any list but I carry all of the necessary items.
On the plane I wear lightweight and loose cotton pants, cami, t-shirt and lightweight, zip-up fleeze jacket along with the shoes I wear the whole trip. In my roller, carry-on bag I pack 2-3 pairs of pants. These are generally lightweight polyester leisure slacks. Depending on the time of year, I might pack capris or, last December, I packed a flannel lined khaki pant and a vest. I like to take a variety of 5-6 tops and enough undergarments to last the whole trip. No, I do not like to wash and wear the next day. I will make it work to avoid washing. Interpret that as you may. I roll all of my clothes and put them in packing cubes (you can buy them in the travel store on this website). Like the previous poster indicated, I have a bag of stuff for the shower, a bag of electronic stuff (chargers, etc), and a first aid type bag. In the backpack that I carry, I have a small laptop, Bose headphones (definitely a luxury item), snacks, travel books, etc. Yes, it's a lot of stuff, but it's a comfort zone for me. There are a lot of things that could be eliminated and it also depends on what time of year I'm travelling. Have a great trip in Italy.
