Packing cubes...yes, I'm cheap!

Does anyone know when RS packing cubes go on sale?

Just go to Marshalls, Ross, T.J. Maxx, or similar discount stores.

We like the RS cubes as well. If you have not signed up for Rick's Weekly Deal Alert, just sign up on the website. Also watch for the holiday sale at the end of Nov. for great buys.

There are lots of packing cubes for sale. I have several brands including RS. I like ebags brand classic cubes at ebags.com the best. Ebags cubes are often on sale. Check ebags toolbar at top of page for a discount code. Only buy them on sale - which is often. I like the value set with the regular cubes (small/med./large) and 3 slimline cubes. I also have a set of the mixed size small cubes for things like charger cords, granola bars, etc.. Bold colors are easier to see and not leave behind.

Sadly you missed it. Saturday for the Reunion event everything in the store was 20% off.

If your trip is still out in the future, you can, as suggested, get on the mailing list and get notified when the next sale occurs.

Or, cheaper -- borrow packing cubes from some of your traveling friends who are not traveling at the same time. Post on the Sacramento group February meeting notice with dates you need, and you will probably be inundated with offers.

Thanks Lauri!!

OK, I guess I have to confess. I'm actually buying them for my camper to store my clothes. After using them traveling, I loved them so much I bought plenty for our travels, but now I want more :-) So, it's no rush and maybe I'll look at other brands as suggested, too. I saw some at Kohls but they were terrible. I think if I get the RS ones I might think I'm actually on some exotic trip while I'm just in my camper!

Thanks guys!!

So far I haven't found any utility in a packing cube I can't get from a ziplock bag - for a lot less.

Agree with Brad. Easier, more flexible, and available from department stores in the Storage section rather than speciaized luggage.

Brad, some of us don't want to use ziploc bags because they don't bring us joy as do nice neat packing cubes.

If you are thrifty as I am, why pay for shipping?

I bought eagle creek packing cubes with no shipping cost and have had them for years.

If you are “cheap”, why pay the unnecessary expense of shipping when there are lots of choices for packing cubes shipped at no cost?

Or better yet, go to a TJ Maxx or store like that!

I like them because they are pretty colors and they sit neater than ziplocks! I just posted this on the other packing cube thread but will add to check both Sierra Trading Post online (or if you have a store near you) and also AAA if you are a member. I attended a packing seminar a number of years ago and I believe we were given a coupon for 20% off for anything in the store.

The ones I've seen at my local TJ Maxx have mostly been the heavier ones but that doesn't mean that the one near you might not carry the lightweight compression ones.

I was just at TJMaxx and bought a set of Sharper Image packing cubes, $12.99 for large, medium and small. I bought a set for my husband a few years ago and really like them. I had liked, as in past tense, RS cubes but after mending the mesh every time I used them I gave up. RS had already replaced one because of rips. Too bad. The lighter weight and size were perfect.

Thanks everyone!!

No way could I use zip lock bags! I fold all my shirts and pants and live out of my cubes, and unzipping from the top and having the whole cube accessible is a necessity for me. I use the whole depth and zip lock bags don't have much evenly distributed depth like a cube does.

But, to each his own!

Susan, since you have time, check out local thrift stores (but you have to check repeatedly -- it's like a treasure hunt.)

I prefer packing cubes rather than zip locks for the very reasons Susan gave. I've never had any problems with the RS cubes I've been using for 14 years.

Pam, sadly at the AAA offices in the area where Susan and I live they don't sell travel goods. I've enjoyed browsing at all the goodies at AAA offices I've been to in Oregon and Kansas that had great travel sections.

I have four medium Eagle Creek compression cubes I got off ebay for 6.99 each, no shipping. There are sellers that on ebay that also sell RS cubes, you may have to hunt though.
