Packing Cubes with Convertible Carry On

I have purchased the packing cubes & plan to purchase the Convertible Carry-On.

The cubes are not very tall (only 5"). Have travelers found it possible to stack TWO sets of these on top of each other within the RS convertible carry-on?

I really like the organization of the cubes & would rather have everything in cubes than have anything loose, so I wouldn't mind if I couldn't fit much else in the bag...

Just trying to get a gist of the size. Has anyone done this or found it practical?

Thanks!

Thanks so much for your help, Ron. I will check Amazon for a thinner packing cube & investigate those PackMates!

Rachel, I have the carry-on and the set of 3 RS cubes. I'd recommend (if you haven't already) doing a dry run with the 3 you already have. I like the organization, too, but I don't put my pants, some shirts, & jacket in cubes. I find that the 3 cubes go well as one layer, then another layer or clothes, etc. on top or bottom. Also, I like that the RS cubes have more flexible sides so you could have 2 layers if you want. As a trip proceeds, organization becomes more of a challenge for me as the clean clothes come out of a cube and into a dirty-clothes bag.

Rachel..

Since you live in Edmonds, why don't you go over to the RS store and try everything out.

And don't forget, you can always put the packing cubes in on their sides. That helps to fill up room.

I have the RS convertible and the set of RS packing cubes. I didn't stack them. What I did was put the lrg one on one end and the two smaller ones side by side next to the lrg cube. They cover the entire bottom of the convertible; however, I had room on top to put a jacket.

If you look, you will see where there were discussions about this very thing. I learned the best way to utilize the cubes from what I read here and they worked out beautifully.

Lrg cube:one skirt, two capri pants, three tops and two scarves.

Sm cube 1: underwear, nightgown, and swim suit.
Sm cube 2: non-liquid toiletries, linens, sleepsheet.

Note on the linens: I had a full set of RS towels and wash clothes which included the hand towel, bath towel and jumbo sized (which served as a light blanket). I put the wash clothes, hand towel, and bath towel into one carrying pouch. How many folks can say they have a linen closet the size of a book?

Hope this helps.

I have the convertible bag and a set of Rick's 3 cubes. Last overseas trip I kept the largest cube flattened (unused) on the bottom of the bag; used 1 small cube for miscellaneous (batteries, charger, clothesline, first aid, etc); and the other small cube for underwear, socks, tie ...).

The space that the larger cube would have taken I filled with my day pack, holding snacks, camera, noise cancelling headphones and other items that I'd want to have handy on the plane. The convertible bag went fine through security and then I pulled the day pack out and put it under the seat before packing the larger bag overhead. Probably could have had this as 2 carry-ons, but only had to maneuver 1 bag through airports.
Oh, shirts, pair of pants and jacket all folded and lay on top of the cubes/daypack and still plenty of space. Never did use the larger cube, but it was available. Maybe next time I'll pack differently.
