Has anyone used the RS packing cubes with the RS convertable specifically?
Do they fit good while in carry on mode (not extended) and does having them cause any problems while carrying the converable on your back?

Hi sue - if you use the search above - you will see there were a lot of discussions on this just a week ago from "Skip".
But yes - the RS convertible is great - in combo with the cubes even more so. I pref. the Eagle Creek ones but the RS ones are ok too. They will keep things in place both ways (you can use the inside straps too. Just make sure you order the shoulder strap (extra) since it can come in handy - giving you 3 ways to carry!
Thank you. Actually, I did see the other post. My concern is that when stacked, the RS cubes would measure 10 inches; however the RS convertable is 9 inches when not expanded.
I wanted to hear from someone who specifically uses the RS cubes with the RS convertable and whether or not the extra inch causes any problems.
Hi Sue. The RS cubes are 5" deep, and if all laid out touching like dominos they cover 22" by 14". They hold a lot, even the "small" are pretty good sized. If you look at the dimensions, the small RS cubes are roughly the size of a shoebox. If you go to the Travel Store page for the convertable carryon, click on the bag's pic to open the other views you'll see a photo of the bag laying out, packed. The cubes are laid across the bottom of the bag. I think that's the way most people use the cubes in the RS convertable. At least when packing enough to need all 3. Laid out that way they make a layer across the entire bottom of the bag that's 5" deep. That leaves about another 4" on top of them for other things. Any way you stack them the 3 cubes only take 1/2 of the bag's volume. I found that you can lay a EC "packing folder" on the bottom, then all 3 cubes on top of that, and you still have another 3" or so left to fill. The bag holds a LOT!!
Oh, and the RS cubes are only 5" deep if FULLY packed. They're soft sided and scrunch down nicely. You could fill them about 3" deep and the the top will come down to hold everything when you use the compression straps to hold the cubes in place.
OK, Thank you so much. That answers my question. I think that I will order them now. I am trying to make everything as flight-security-check-point friendly as possible. :D
They work very well, and like I said they really are pretty big. That may be the big advantage to the Eagle Creek cubes, they're not as deep. If you look at a shoebox, that's a lot of room to fill! But the RS cubes "collapse" so they work, they're see through mesh, and the set of 3 weigh less then a pound together!
When you get to security and they open your bag, watch the TSA inspector's face...they'll smile when they see you've used cubes. ;)))
Another option is to buy 2 sets of the RS cubes. They are very reasonably priced. Sometimes using 3 of the small cubes works out well, and leaves more room for a toiletries kit or a pair of shoes.
Just a thought...
I decided to get the RS cubes. Since I have the RS convertable already, I think the RS cubes are made to fit it.
If they work good, I will get another set for hubby for his trip to Sicily.
