overnight trips from Switzerland

My brother (age 26) and myself (age 22) will be traveling in Switzerland and Southern Germany this summer with our parents (age 57 and 60). Because of our difference in age and obviously in taste, my brother and I would like to take an overnight trip to escape the folks for a couple of days. We are spending most of our trip in the alps and countryside so big cities and nightlife might be a better change of scenery. We were thinking night trains to Berlin, Prague, or Vienna would be cool.

Is this doable? I would love your thoughts or other suggestions.

It's absolutely doable. Most night trains from Switzerland are operated by City Night Line. You can check out timetables here: http://tinyurl.com/352m5g
If your looking for nightlife, you should also consider Amsterdam. There is also a night train to Barcelona from Zurich.
