Overnight between Bern and Paris?

My friend and I have an extra day between Bern and Paris. We were hoping to see a bit more of France than just Paris/Versailles so rather than just adding a day to either city, we thought we'd break up the train ride instead of taking a non-stop. We were thinking of spending the night and most of a day somewhere on/very close to the rail route. Is there a stop that has a hostel and maybe a point of interest (nothing major as we want a relaxing day between cities)? Any thoughts/recommendations would be appreciated.

Why not see a bit of the Burgundy wine country? You could take a direct TGV to Dijon and stay in the one hostel I found listed online, Ethic Etapes Dijon.

You could stick to Dijon. Or you could take a very short train ride to Beaune, wander the streets there, and return to Dijon in the evening. I've read several reports about how beautiful Beaune is and how walkable it is.

If you only have a day, and are going to Burgundy, I would pick Beaune over Dijon in a heartbeat. It's smaller, more compact, and better organized for a quick visit, and as Tim points out only about 25 minutes by connecting train.

Colmar, in Alsace, might also be a good bet and is more enroute.
