10 of us arrive & depart Milano, staying in villa just south of Florence for two weeks in mid september. Am wanting to get to Venice, Lucern, and passion play in Obberamergau, along with Amalfi coast. If I do all these places, will I be like a crazy woman missing the essence of the small town & luxury of staying in one place? should I just stay within a certain # of miles from florence?
The obvious question is why rent a villa if you're not going to stay in it?
The other places can be done in a hurry in ten days.
Have no idea if play tickets are still available.
I agree with Ed. I don't get the point of staying in one place that you won't even enjoy, unless you plan to explore Tuscany using your villa as a base, which is what I would recommend. why not stay in the villa for one week and do something else the other week? Also, Florence is in the middle while Venice is in one direction and Amalfi is in another plus two of your proposed stops aren't even in Italy yet you are staying in Central Italy nowhere near another international border. you might be better to just go to Venice for a few days, then go to your villa and explore. You also have to remember that traveling with a large group like that is slower. When I'm traveling alone if I want to be up and about at 7 and grab a really quick breakfast and be on my way, that's easy. But with ten, everything is more difficult. I think that if you do what you have posted, you will not really get to see much at all. There is sooo much to see and do in Tuscany. Florence is easily worth 5-7 days alone (in my opinion of course:)) and there are tons of hilltowns that are well worth a visit for at least a day, the list goes on and on. you could even go to rome for a few days and that would make much more sense than all of that traveling.
thank you, thank you... you've convinced me! appreciate your time and willingness to share your experience.
It sounds like you want to home base and sleep in the country south of Florence but do day trips to Lucern and the Amalfi coast?
The one-way distance from Florence to Lucern is 350 miles, that's going to work out to about 13 hours of travel time in one day.
The driving time from Florence to Sorrento, and back to the villa in Florence, will be about 12 hours (~650 miles in one day).
