Out of the way retreats (sort of)

I'm going to have some time on my own in Europe this summer and I'm looking to spend 3 days or so somewhere out of the way and quiet as kind of a retreat. I'll be in Germany/Austria, so I'd like it to be somewhere around there. And though I'd like it to be somewhat out of the way (ie not urban) I don't want to have to take 3 trains and a bus to get there :)

I know anout Hallstatt, but my wife and I are staying there later in our trip when we are together, so not there. Any suggestions?

Cary,

You might have a look at the Black Forest region of Germany, for example Baden-Baden. It would be large enough to provide all the facilities, but also provide the opportunity to visit a Spa for some relaxation.

Happy travels!

In Austira:

Melk (Between Salzburg and Vienna)
Mittenwald (Close to Garmsch area)

In Germany:
A small village on the Mosel river. We liked Zell (There were very few Americans there when we visited) but there are several to choose from.

I am afraid I don't know how many trains or buses it would take to get to these.
