OK, so I know where I am starting and where I am ending. I plan on a 21 day Eurail Pass. I am traveling alone and am a couchsurfer by choice ( I love the locals and prefer to get to know the town that way). I leave on Nov 9th in a week and a half. Any advice? Given the time frame, is it crazy or sane to meander through Europe without a set agenda. I don't want to plan a trip all out (which is what I usually do) only to have to abandon the plans. Any thoughts you have are welcome.
I think your plan sounds WONDERFUL! Do you have dates set for where you are staying? (I.e., do you know the folks you'll be staying with already, or are you punting?) If you have those dates nailed down, that will end up being your itinerary, won't it? If not, then it sounds like you will footloose and fancy free. I have done this sort of travel - eons ago - and I loved it. It was GREAT. I encourage you to meander along and have a blast.
I've travelled with no plan off season and had great trips that way, so don't think you'll have a problem winging it. You will be out of there well before Christmas when it may be a lot harder to find a couch to sleep on. I do recommend having some idea of where you will be sleeping your first night or two, but if you can't find a couchsurfing spot before you leave, you can always get a hostel bed. Have fun!
