I'd appreciate any recommendations/ suggestions on travel to Oslo & Stockholm in June. A group of 14, 3 generations with 7 kids aged 6-15. Hope to use the 2 cities as bases to stay, explore the local area, but then venture out on day trips.
Recommendations on places to stay, things to see and do especially things that would entertain the kids would be appreciated.
Any particular interests and things you want to see and do? For how long are you there? Stockholm is a bit more spread out over a couple of islands and many of them are nice. Södermalm is in many ways a charming island, but if you want a bill less urban feel you can consider staying on Djurgården. Oslo is a bit more compact and there are many good areas to stay in the centre. But as long as you are close to the metro or tram you're in a good location in both cities, and it will be easy to get to the station to catch the train.
We are hoping to stay in/near Stockholm 5 days and in/near Oslo 5 days. We enjoy historical and cultural sites, and would like to venture out of the cities to see a much as possible. Activities for kids is near the top of the list. Thanks!
Make sure you visit Skansen in Stockholm with the kiddos. It's wonderful; you could easily spend an entire day there. The Gröna Lund amusement park is nearby, though I personally have not visited it. And using the ferries to travel among the Stockholm archipelago islands is a treat for all ages. Other enjoyable experiences include the Vasa Museum and for some (not for me) the ABBA Museum. (I really can't stand ABBA's music, but I recognize I'm in the minority.) Skeppsholmen Island is known primarily for its museums, but I particularly enjoyed seeing the antique ships docked at its northeast corner. Fascinating.
Can't help you much with Oslo, as we were there for only one day en route to the railway trip to Bergen, which was magical. We did enjoy walking around the city harbor, but we're marine buffs.
Stockholm is one of my favorite cities. Enjoy your trip!
