Organizing all travel research and pertinent information

Hi, as I plan our trip for this June, there are so much travel related information and research that I need to save and print. I usually go through it in the plane and just discard after I read it. I am wondering if there is a way to create a folder in my iPad and placing all materials per city that we are visiting.Sorry to ask this question. Thanks.

Sally, I think it's a good question. I use Notes for lists of things in each city, but I admit I don't stay on top of it in terms of updates. There may be a spreadsheet function. You're making me think more about this, thanks.

Evernote works well. Textilus is the best WP app Your options are almost limitless. Do a search at the App Store.

I bought a spreadsheet app for my Ipod and put everything in there for later reference: flight and reservation numbers, a list of pre-researched lodging choices (prices, addresses, phone numbers), info for sights (opening times, admission prices, my rating of the sight).

I like getting rid of any paper I can and reducing it into an electronic file I can reference when I need to.

It will be nice to get rid of the papers as there will be less to carry. I now have ETBD in my IPad ( thanks Frank ! ) will check on Evernotes and Textilus and the spread sheet App. I am not very computer savy. Just need something that can store all my travel notes and have the ' copy and paste' capability so it will be all in one file. As for creating folders, I am not sure I could do that with an IPad. I know you can with IMAC but I don't have one. Thanks !

I use a pretty low tech method with my Ipad. My email is downloaded to my Ipad (e.g., I can access it offline). I create a special email folder for my trip and store all my travel related emails (e.g., hotel reservations, e-tickets, etc.) there. For other info such as notes I've collected from websites and put in a word doc or pdfs I've downloaded, I simply attach them to an email, send it to myself, and move the email to the travel folder.

I have used Evernote and it meets my needs quite well.

Sally,

I use a combination of googlemaps and calander.

i use the maps to plot where i want to go/see. you can add info as to when/where/time/web link

i will use the calendar to show when. for each scheduled thing i can also add the same stuff in the map.

if i need to look at flight/train info i can go to my gmail where everything is placed in folders. But i try to put the relevant info in my calendar with the reservation #

happy trails.

I do as Laura suggests, keeping all emails in a folder on my iPad.

But I like Ed's suggestion of Dropbox. I am going to try that!

I use Snap2PDF. You take pics of whatever documents you want to save for reference and you can just page through them as you would multiple pages on a PDF file. Although when you page through it looks as if you are turning a page. Free and very easy to use. Each set that you scan is saved on a virtual bookshelf, similar to the iPhone newsstand icon. Just open up whichever you one you want and look through it when you need it.

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions. I will look at the Apps and check it out. Ed mentioned about screen shot which I understand but he also mentioned about Dropbox? Is that the 'Bookmark' on the upper left hand corner with the IOS 7 ? Thanks

Drop box is a Samsung/android App.

Its an app where you can dump stuff into and have other apps access whats inside.

I also am not good at technology. I use my "Notes" on my ipad. I just copy and paste whatever information I want. Then I keep all my confirmation emails and I just make a Europe folder for my emails. Pretty simple!

I do what Susan does. My upcoming trip to Europe will be my first with an iPhone. The information on my iPad will also be available to me on my phone while I'm out and about. Prior to getting the iPhone I was able to do the same with an iPod touch.

The folder is in your email, not your iPad. I use yahoo for my email. When you open an email you can do various things with it - forward, trash, or click on the icon that looks like a folder. There you can create as many folders as you like. I make a different folder for each trip. When I receive an email regarding the trip I put it in the folder so I can easily find it.

Notes are available offline. I keep all my lodging and transportation info in my notes so I can access it any time.

Again, I am not computer savvy, but George, yes, I can "see/read" my email when I'm off line. They are not "new" email, they are the ones I have accumulated prior to the trip, just things I may want to reference like confirmations or information. I've never had problems accessing it, and just now I went off line to make sure that I can indeed see them, and I can. So, I use the stored email (in folders within my emails) and use "notes" on my iPad. Does the trick for me. You can even take photos of maps and they will be stored in iphoto, again "off line". I will use it on-line to update current email and write home, etc. but as far as info I love my ipad!

Susan, you are correct. Old emails can be viewed offline. Between being able to view the emails I have saved to my trip folder and to read my 'notes', I can see all the information I need without any internet access.

Susan reminded me that I access previously opened emails offline as well. But I only save reservations and tickets on my iPad for when I'm traveling. I take hard copies as well (trust issues) and just toss them when I'm moving on,

I have left a space in my travel journal/log for my hotel info as well as any travel info (flights, train, car rental) so I don't have to carry a ton of paper, but have the basic info.I have one page for each day of the trip and just fill that out before I go. There is an envelope in the back that I can keep a few papers in if I feel I need to, but I am trying to cut down on the paper I carry, but still want the bare bones info in case something happens to devices.

Thanks everyone for all the good and helpful information. I will try them to see which works for me. Thanks again.

I use a desktop PC at home and a netbook on the road.

I put together one huge Excel spreadsheet with all my travel info. I have a page for every day of travel, with rail schedules (preferred and alternate), and a page for every place I'm going to visit or stay, with maps, hotel addresses, etc. In front I have a page with an index and a page with the day-by-day itinerary, with internal links to the spreadsheet pages for days and towns. At the end are miscellaneous pages with, for instance, a cost comparison for rental car vs rail and flight information.

I create the spreadsheet on my desktop as I'm planning the trip, then transfer it to my netbook just before I leave. This has worked well for me for the last five trips over 7 years.
