Ordered new passport under new name...didn't get stuff sent back

Has this happened to any of you who renew passport or change name on passport? I researched that when you send the passport agency you old passport, you will get it back, clipped and unusable. I also read that any supporting documentation that you send to passport agency (birth certificate, marriage license), you get it back. Well all I got back was my passport; maybe the best thing to get back....BUT.....i want my old passport back, where it shows all the stamps of where I have been (I guess I am nostalgic). But most importantly, I want my marriage license back. I see a form that my passport came with, it states a number, but it is Saturday and no one answered.
What do you think my chances are on getting my things back? Has this happened to you ladies out there who get their names changed on passport? My form clearly stated that my materials would be sent back.

Usually what happens is that the old / supporting stuff comes back a couple of days later.

Maybe a security thing....send the stuff separately.....hmmmmm. Thanks Ed. I hope that is the case.

We recently renewed our children's passports, and received them in the mail. About a week later, we got back their old ones with a hole punched in them, and the supporting documents. Give it a week; I bet they'll turn up.

No security, just bureaucracy, What I really thing happens is all your junk goes to the ScreeningDude, who then compiles it and checks for completeness and then sends it to the ApprovalDude, who then stamps it with his approval and sends it to the IssuingDude, who then issues it and sends it to the SendingDude, who then sends one of his triplicate sending notices to the ScreeningDude, who then sends your junk back to you.. I might have missed a couple of steps, but I'm probably close. Anyway, it'll come back. I think my last go-around was a week between the new one and the junk. If you want to see something similar in action, go try to pay a water bill in Japan. You walk down a whole line of people who stamp the damn thing, one after another without looking at it - - but you're not done - - you have to go to another room to fork over the money.

Relax - it always comes in two packets. They are in a hurry to get the passport to you and less so for the supporting documents.

Cathy, how long did the renewal for the kids take? Officially seems to be 6-8 weeks, but I'm wondering about the actual.

You'll get the other stuff back. It comes in two packages. The last time I renewed they sent my new passport overnight, and the rest followed by regular mail a couple of days later.

Karen, We renewed the kids' passports in February or March, and I think it took about 4 weeks to get them. Less time than we had anticipated. Not sure if the time of year makes a difference in speed.

Kelly, Did you ever get the old passport and other stuff back? There were 4 or 5 days separation between the passport and older stuff for us.
This is obviously a security procedure. If the passport was lost in the mail, you would still receive the supporting documentation in a separate mailing.

No supporting documentation as of yet. I am sure the holiday weekend slows the mail system down a bit.
