opera in Verona Italy

Can anyone perhaps help me. Is the opera at the arena in Verona worthwhile? Tickets are quite expensive. Thanks Elna

I've never been but we have tickets to Romeo and Juliet this summer. If I recall there are some cheap seats that start at $25.

Very worthwhile and amazing, as Brad said. It is not expensive if you get the "cheap" seats where you sit on the stone steps of the arena. We did that to see Aida and loved every minute of it. You can rent cushions to sit on if you like, or bring your own. We felt the view and the accoustics were fine up there. I would do it that way again.

Amazing is the better word. The arena is, I believe, the third largest Roman Ampitheater, much better than the Roman Colliseum because it's 2000 years old but still in working order. Unfortunately when I was in Verona, the season was over so I didn't get to experience it. If you're an Opera lover, I don't think you would want to miss this experience. Aida lends itself well to the bigger than life venue. It's the one now on my bucket list.

Definitely worthwhile. We saw Aida there in 2010 and it was a fantastic experience. I found a seating chart online and picked seats that were in the front row of the third price tier. Excellent seats. Do rent the cushions or bring your own. We stayed in a wonderful B&B just a block away: Finestra sull'Arena

If you have the opportunity to go, don't miss it! It's fabulous. We went for the first time in 2010, because it was on our 'bucket' list. We bought the best seats we could afford ( to see Aida) and we obeyed all the rules: no food, no drinks and no camera. It was a wonderful experience, but we couldn't help noticing people seated on the stone steps, only a few rows from us, having an even better time with more space and picnic baskets!
And everyone was taking photos. We decided we'd go again but we could only afford the cheap seats on the stone steps. We LOVED it. The accoustics are such that you can hear everything everywhere. And, for us at least, it seemed to be a lot more fun on the steps. We enjoyed it so much in 2011 we went for 3 weeks, stayed in an apartment and went every night we could. The plan is to go again this year. Unless you get the really expensive seats in the front few rows, you need a cushion. They rent them inside (they're nice and thick), or you can buy outside but they're not really thick enough; or take your own. I would suggest that if you are sitting on the stone steps, there's more room during the week; weekends get really packed. And go early. It's not boring if you enjoy people-watching. And if you like wine, take your own - the stuff they sell is atrocious! Enjoy- please don't miss it!

elna, I've never attended the Opera in Verona, but they were rehearsing Aida in full costume the last time I was there, and it looked magnificent. One important point to note is that rooms often become "scarce" and expensive during Opera season, so I'd suggest booking AS SOON as you have your dates finalized. Happy travels!

DEFINITELY! One of my most favorite experiences in Verona.
