only 10 mins to go from track 1 (S1) to track 30 in Munich Hbf

Hello, I will be traveling from Munich airport to Fuessen vial train. I have a few questions: 1. Once arriving Munich Hbf via S1, will I have enough time to go from track 1 (S1 from Munich airport) to track 30, within 10 mins, to catch my next train that bounds for Fuessen? 2. Is track 1, S1, at the lower level, and track 30 at the upper level? Thank you so very much for your help. Betty

I can't specifically answer your question, but 10 minutes seems fine in general for a German train transfer. I was worried about this last year when I trained all over Germany and most of my transfers were actually under 10 minutes, even in larger stations like Frankfurt, but I never had a problem. German trains are usually very prompt and stations seem designed for short transfers.

I don't think you'll have a problem getting to track 30. Ask the conductor on the train before you arrive to make sure the departure track has not changed. Waste no time getting there. Gute Reise.

I'd say if the schedule for your train says it leaves on track 30, it will leave on track 30. Track 30 is part of the Starnberger Flügelbahnhof, a wing Bahnhof attached to the north side of the Munich station. The S-Bahn (tief=deep) station is almost under it. The S1 comes into the station to the east. When you get off, go up the escalator to the mall above the tracks and go back the other way to the west end of the mall. You will see signs directing you to tracks 27-36. But why are you assuming you will have 10 minutes. If you are arriving in Munich by plane from North America, you could be early and catch an earlier S-Bahn and have more time, or your plane could be late, or you'll take extra time through immigration, and not catch that S-Bahn. However, there is a train to Fuessen every hour. If you miss one, you just have to wait a little for the next one. You'll get there when you get there.

Thank you so very for all of your good advises.
To Lee. I will be flying into Munich from Rome. I have 2 hrs from the time i land to get on a S1 train to Munich Hbf. There, I have exactly 14 mins to get to a train in track 30 bounds for Fuessen. i know there are trains going to Fuessen every hour, but an hour i save, is an extra hour i can i spend in Fuesen. :) Betty

OK. If you you are only flying from Rome to Munich, we'll assume the flight is on time. (Of course, if it isn't, all bets are off). Since you are flying between EU and Schengen countries, there will be no immigration and no customs. 2 hrs will be plenty of time to get to the S-Bahn stations. The S-1 runs every 20 min, so if you can get there in 1h40min, you can take the earlier S1 to the Hbf and have 34 min to find the train to Fuessen. There are actually two S-Bahn lines from the airport station into the Munich Hbf. They leave the airport station on two separate tracks and come into the Hbf from opposite directions. Whichever one leaves the station first will get you to the Hbf first.

my other worry is that i have already bought the train ticket from DB bahn website, one that takes me from the airport to Munich Hbf via S-bahn, follows by a Bavarian regional train to Fuessen. so, i am kind of stucked with this tight schedule. Unless, I am allowed to get on to an earlier S-bahn train to Munich Hbf. i may have to ask people from the station. Betty

The ticket is completely flexible. The S-Bahn and regional train have no reserved seats, so you can use any of them during the day to get to your destination. In fact, it's probably good for any trains on that route for a month. That is unless you have a Bayern-Ticket. In that case it is valid only on the day printed on the ticket, but still for any trains.

Thank you again Lee and Ralph. I had been to Fuessen in 2008, but just for a day and with some friends. There was this lovely lake (a tinny one compares to others around the area) on the way to the castle that attracted my attention, The water was so beautiful that i wanted to jump in. however, i couldn't do that because it was winter.
So, i am re-visiting the place (yeap just so i can swim in that lake) this time without worrying about anyone. i hope to hike around the mountain area and of course, to swim in that lake. :) hope it's allowed, or i won't get caught and make some local headlines, "....an American idiot was dirtying our beautiful lake..."
