I'm leaving shortly for three weeks in Scandinavia. For many years I have kept a travel journal on my computer and later used it to make a travelogue/website (personal). This time I'd like to try uploading the journal and the photos as i go. I will be taking an ipad and a travel camera - I'll transfer the photos to the ipad, no problem. I also can easily write the journal on the ipad. BUt how to put extensive journal entries and a LOT of photos online in one place where friends can see them?
I've looked at both Travelpod and Travelblog. I've downloaded the travelpod app and it seems to be very slow and somewhat buggy uploading photos (and there are complaints about that on their website). Travelblog has no app per se, but it seems more geared to 2-3 photos per entry. I can do a personal photo blog and link it to Flickr or Instagram, which I've never used; Picasa (now in Google plus) is good at receiving a lot of pictures but there's no real place for more than a line or two of text. (I'm not worrying about keeping the images in full res; I will keep them backed up in a dropbox.) So what's best? What have YOU used?
There is another recent thread on this same topic, so you might want to look at that one, too. I use Blogger. It's easy to use, easy to upload pictures and captions, and it's free.
I used BlogPress with no problems. I did practice before we left so I knew how it worked.
Clare, Actually, I've found TravelPod to be VERY user friendly and VERY easy to upload photos or videos. However, I don't use the iPhone App when I'm posting but rather the regular internet site, using my Netbook. My usual method is to post Blog entries by using part of the text from my travel journal. I just "cut & paste" the text that I want and when I add to TravelPod, the website cleans up the text and formats according to their requirements. Adding photos takes a few minutes, depending on the size of the photo and the number that I'm uploading. Videos take a bit longer than photos, but I use the "waiting time" to get my kit organized for the next day (or whatever). You could easily use the same method with an iPad and I'm sure it would work well (subject of course to the speed and quality of the Wi-Fi connections you're using at the time). Happy travels!
My problem with an online journal is that after one day I've already taped enough restaurant receipts and postcards to it that I can't see the screen anymore...
Hi Clare,
I have also used and been happy with Blogger for my travel blog. I have used the BlogPress app and well as the Blogsy app. Both let you post multiple photos from your iPad photo library. BlogPress is simple to use and has several settings you can alter. Blogsy has a steeper learning curve but is more customizable. -Nancy
