My family and I are in Paris and Normandy until the 29th and have about a week in-between going to Switzerland (where we'll be staying in Murren). Any suggestions of where to spend the week? We have two small children ages 1 and 4 who are good troopers. We had thought about London or Rome but getting from Paris to there and then to Switzerland is a bit expensive.
Thank you!! Paige
Hop on a train (or quick, budget flight?) to Belgium, and visit Bruges, Brussels, or other locations. Food in Belgium isn't cheap, but it's good -- so is the beer and chocolate.
If you want to stay in France until you reach Switzerland, how about France's second city, Lyon? We're going there this summer.
Or, continue a bit farther south, to Avignon and Provence.
Brugge yes, but 2-3 days is probably enough.
Strasbourg is nice, again for 2-3 days, and easy to get from there to Switzerland.
At least some of the Christmas markets in Alsace (Strasbourg, Colmar, maybe others) will be up until Dec. 31. The elaborate Christmas decorations will probably be up for a few days more.
We stopped in Colmar on our way to Switzerland. In addition to the Christmas markets and music, I believe they have an ice skating rink. Also, the Alsatians have good, hearty winter food!
