One other pre-trip item

Here's a dicey one:

We are on a low-carb diet. Last summer, we went to France. You cannot be on a low-carb diet.

So, I ate the croissants.

Well, to keep it "clean", this had effects. Sometimes ones that were ... necessary to deal with.

So, when going on a trip, think about your diet. Will it change? If you anticipate eating more carbs, perhaps starting a bit early might be a good plan. That way, your system can adjust.

I am also a low carb person. I have diabetes. But when I went to France I ate croissants. When I went to Italy, I ate pasta. No nasty side effects resulted. I guess that depends on your overall sensitivity to dietary changes.

My glucose would be higher in the mornings after eating croissants or in the evenings after eating pasta, but none required me to increase my medicines. I think the extra walking over what I normally do helped with that. But then I also didn't eat just croissants or just pasta. They were plenty of non carb options at the hotel breakfasts -- eggs, various hams and sausages, prosciutto, cheeses. The places we had dinners in Italy always seemed to have a fantastic vegetable selection. I did find when I attempted to bypass the hotel breakfasts, it was more difficult to find things more than coffee and croissant type items so I just stuck with the hotels. Overall, I managed to balance things out for minimal impact. Unfortunately I still gained 20 pounds on my Italy tour which is a first as I normally have lost 10 on every RS tour I took. :-)
